We received this today...... have told all my installer contacts to check and double-check before they do anything!!

5 January 2005,

ATTENTION TO ALL EX – TARBS CUSTOMERS

Following the collapse of TARBS in July 2004, PanAmSat Asia Pty Ltd (“PanAmSat Asia”) has now purchased all the TARBS assets from the receivers – this means that PanAmSat Asia now owns the TARBS dishes and TARBS receivers (“set top boxes”) unless the set top box was purchased by you from TARBS.

In the event that you did not buy the TARBS dish and receiver from TARBS, then this means that no person has the right to repoint the dishes to another satellite unless they have a written authority from PanAmSat Asia.

PanAmSat Asia has authorised Horizon World Plus TV to use the old TARBS dishes for the purpose of distributing his services on the PAS-8 satellite. Horizon World Plus TV is a Russian pay TV service which currently includes the following Russian channels: RTR-Planet, NTV-World, RTVi and RTVi+ and which also may include additional Russian services in the future as advised by Horizon World Plus TV.
Please note that it is illegal for anyone to move the TARBS dish away from the PAS-8 satellite as the dish is not their property. The dish and receiver is now the property of PanAmSat Asia, which has given Horizon World Plus TV the permission and authority to use this dish for the Russian TV service.

For any further information please do not hesitate to contact Horizon World Plus TV on (02) 9387 7000 or 1300 733 302.

Yours Sincerely,

Horizon World Plus TV
PanAmSat Asia

In my opinion, The dish belongs to the property owner no matter what ppl says. They can only claim the ownership for the unsold boxes, but if they want the dishes from ex-tarbs customers then the installation damage on the roof/wall must be fixed after removal. Decision of how to use of the existing dishes belongs to the owner of the property as its a personal choice and can be in any direction as long as its in the installed place.
Regards,
Ex-Tarbs Customer....

Hi,

If that is true then Pacific broadcasting services in Fiji has a whole lot of stb3100 Tarbs boxes ready to sell out to its subscribers. Do they have the rights over all this...I wonder???

i dnt see them coming to collect the boxes as it will end up costing them more then wat the boxes are worth LOL

as for the dishes thats wouldt be worth it either they would buy them bulk wholesale price anyway they would proberly get the dishes for $10 each anyway so for an installer to come out and take away the dish would cost minimum i say bout $100-$150 i dnt see them doin this just to get a $10 dish off ur roof

just thinking about it this means TV PLUS PAS8, MYSAT (WMI) PAS8, UBI B3 arent allowed to use the dishes then either and that TV PLUS does not have permission to take any of the tarbs boxes away from any ppl that dnt own them as its the property of PANAMSAT now ?????

They are all scammers in my opinion and all will go broke as did Tarbs.

Too many companies trying to muscle in on too small an audience. Try signing up in 12 months and see who is left ( most likely none ). Or they will initially fund for 3 years and then pull the pin due to heavy losses.

And to confuse everything a bit more.
after tarbs collapse aaacom started to sell those russian channels. Friend of mine paying $50 per month for those 4 russian channels, that are still FTA.

Aaacom replaced the tarbs box with SonicBox and left the tarbs dish in place.

And dish belongs to PanAmSat now.

So to make everything "legal" I assume aaacom has some sort of contract with PanAmSat for the use of their dish. And contract with Horizon World Plus TV to sell those 4 russian channels that are still free.

Does anyone else find this unlikely?

I am going to call Horizon World Plus TV to clarify all this.

ilya

Liski

It was an official press release by Panamsat and Horizon. I have seen a hard copy letter which had the PANAMSAT logo on it.

Its as it said PANAMSAT now ownes all the former TARBS assets... customer base, dishes, antennas, content agreements etc. you can bet that Mr B didnt expect this...

The only companies that have access / rights to use this hardware include Horizon, WMI & TV+

Satfreak, so what? Would that create any problem for the ex-Tarbs/UBI customers as most use the old Tarbs box and dish/Lnb? Please, inform us if there is any impact/force for the existing equipment usage so ppl can make the corrections...

Fat chance of that happening
They can go look for it, themselves

Maybe if they included $250 buck for my trouble of finding it and the cost of entry to the tip, I think is $30 from memory. Plus the rental of real estate the dish has been occupying I’m thinking $224.50 per month, plus GST…well they can work the rest out

Then i can purchase the DreamBox 7025S

[ 13. Is it possible to install an external dvd burner on 7020/7025 as they have usb port at back as well IDE port inside? I'm pretty sure that there will be a patch available soon for that option and ppl can just use an external DVDRW drive to write on the dvd media direct from the the tuner or 2nd tuner "as optional PCI type and can be installed later".

[ 13. No patch just a new Image,or you FTP a plugin, the latest Image is "ZEUS" the one before is "ANGHARAD" the later model will have the inbuilt DVD Burner, also you will have options of fitting a Digital Terrestrial card in them. Go to the Austech.info forum for more info about them but there is a mile of other forums that Specialise on them.

Why are you guys encouraging these illegal activities? I can only imagine what other much bigger illegal activities you're prepared to follow behind the UBI's closed doors when you're so free to talk about these boxes in the public.

Yes, agree, there's nothing illegal about a knife too, it all depends how you use it and for what purpose.

Nick, If there is nothing illegal about a knife then why it's inproper or wrong to talk about it! No one here is supporting piracy! All talk mainly for having a better system then those shit boxes. Dreambox as you can imagine from its name is a real Dream Box. You can do so many things with it as long as you have the contacts to get some help! Piracy with dreambox is not a new thing to the ppl and have been around probably for the last 5-6 years starting from 9200S boxes...I find nothing wrong talking about the new staff brings more advanced options to the user...

Nick,
you know, card sharing (which still isn't illegal in AUS) is not proprietary to Dreambox. Neither is having CI slots, nor a network cable, nor twin tuners, nor a HDD nor a DVD burner.

The Dreambox is as illegal as owning a Sony Playstation 2®. Modifying a PS2 could bring you in a grey area, but out of the box, it is certainly not illegal.

I must admit these boxes are tempting, card sharing, hard disk, DVD writing. That's exactly what lawyers are looking for when trying to convince judges to outlaw them.

It is in effect a computer as it has a CPU , ram and runs on Linux.

An obvious benefit is the amount of third party software available for it and that is constantly in development due to it being Linux based.

Newer models will have features like the ability for the user to add or remove satellite or digital terrestrial tuners , example , you could have 2 tuners one for satellite and one digital terrestrial in the one box , or 2 x satellite so you can record from one sat while watching another. You can add your own hard drive to them , the sky is the limit.

It is not illegal for me to buy an axe , but it is illegal for me to embed it in someones head. Just because I buy an axe doesnt mean I want to kill someone. hell , I might actually want to cut down a tree.

People buy things for many reasons. In my opinion , the Dreambox is the box to have , simply , its fantastic features crap on those of all other boxes. In regards to card sharing , you can share your one subscriber card just on your own network around your house. It doesnt mean you have to share it in regard to full scale piracy.

Regardless , what people choose to do is entirely up to them. And why shouldnt we be able to talk about them in public ? Sharing of information is NOT illegal , what the end user does with that information is up to them. I have a DVD writer in my PC and know how to copy commercial DVD's , this doent make me a pirate.

I see that none of you are getting the right message across, I agree with all of you but you're missing the real point, the fact that these posts about Dreamboxes have started with one intention only, and that is to hurt someone. And that can only be achieved if you use them illegally. I'd call it the commercial war.

There are plenty of others out there such as austech.info , and sat-industry.net who have plenty of Dreambox discussion that isnt all piracy related.

Card Sharing is nothing new , it has been going on for well over 12 months.

Commercial War ? I dont think so. Tarbs was heavily pirated and UBI and TV Plus will be no different , especially due to the way they have both engaged in the ridiculous carry on of dirty tricks and related rubbish. This will put a lot of doubt in subscribers minds.......if these companies carry on with juvenile behaviour like this , how are they capable of running a company ? Will I sign up and lose out like I did with TARBS ? That is the reason why people will turn to Piracy , though there are always some that will spend $500 to save themselves $200.

And if there is a dollar to be made out of piracy , there will ALWAYS be someone out there doing it. Ethnic groups are no exception and if anything , are more likely to set up piracy rings in my opinion ( no that is not a racist comment , just a fact )

If Piracy was to start , it would quickly travel through word of mouth in ethnic communities. Discussion about it here makes little difference.

One thing that I forgot to mention Nick , is that you can card share using almost any satellite box including provider boxes.

All that is required is a season interface , software and valid provider card. Card Sharing is NOT exclusive to using a Dreambox.

Yes I studied these dreamboxes last night via a few other forums and I am very impressed with them, and I have to agree with what Boring says these boxes can almost do anything including piracy. Very complicated but when you get the hang of them you will like them. It was explained to me last night that these boxes can be connected to the net for other reasons outside cardsharing and automatically update themselves.
But as Boring has already said most boxes can be card shared, but the dreambox is the more professional way of doing it.

Yep , thats the point I was trying to make Admin , you can do it with almost any box on the market.

The Sky is the limit with a Dreambox connected to the Internet , there is a web browser plug in so you can surf the net on your TV for example , I even have a Dream wireless keyboard for my main one.But anyway , I am going a bit far off topic in this thread.

Yes I totally agree and I won't let industry take over the forums.
I suspect there are UBI people on these forums but at least they don't dig into everyone like ja and his aliases.
As for Satfreak I will be closely monitoring his post as there is definitely a connection between them.

Farseas,

Geez, where were you all this time?

Now, sit down and let me whip out my crystal ball and see exactly what equipment you have so that I can tell you what to do.

…hmmmm, I see a Mentor box, yes, yes defiantly a mentor box. I cannot quite make out the model number. Looks like STB-31… no can’t make out the other bit.
Oh yes and here is a dish….yup it’s a Ku offset dish, ok.

…do you get the drift, man?

Darth Vader I'm after the same info. I'm in Sydney and have an stb 3110, and the standard dish that came with the tarbs service (65cm?) currently pointed at pas8

@Rad, what you talking about?
@Farseas - Short answer ...No! Long answer is, ...ummm, No because UBI will remove your channel auth's as soon as you do a channel update and then your stuffed. So I guess it's no.

reuder,

You do it by moving the dish 9mm towards the west and elevate it to about 52 deg elevation

BTW it's me Vlad

Yes, find your evevation and if your looking through the trees your stuffed mate.best way is use a broom
and a protractor with a level and work from that.
Keep away from trees

Farseas,

First of you’ll need a protractor, a spirit level and a long strait stick (the longer the better) or better yet a plastic pipe. With your protractor make a 51 degree angle between the spirit level and the stick and fasten the stick to the spirit at that angle. Now go to where your dish is and set the spirit level with the ground. Look up the side of the stick or through the hole of the pipe. If you see blue sky you are laughing.

Mind you 51 degrees is quite steep. A tree 100m away would have to be (where is my scientific calculator when I need one), some 120m high.

Hight of tree = 100m away X tan 50 degree = 123.4

Vlad...

Hahahaa...
Oh what a rip-off, for re-directing the existing dish, they charge $50-$60 in Sydney, how come its double in Canberra. Perhaps, it might be the capital city effect...

I am going to quit my job and come back to sydney as soon as I can. If anybody wants to come to capital thik about it for a while.

Just a comment for you wogs, there is less tolerance for you here.

Farseas,
Ok if you stand in front and look towards your dish, the LNB needs to be so that the cable is on the bottom pointing slightly to the right, like 5 O'Clock.
What is it's possition now? Once you change it, scan again and all should be good.

Vlad...

I still have probs with 12525. I can easily get 12658. The LNB is exactly at the position Drath vade have mentioned. the signal quality is 36%.

When I turn the dish about 1-2 degs to the east the box try to seek signal from transponders 12407, 12527, and 12720 ( 30000, vertical) and it says all info recieved but shows no TV channels (just ESPN, CNN,NGC,... from old Tarb channels).

However, turning the dish 1-2 degs to west again to its original position, it quickly lock on 12658 vertical(only) and shows all globecast channels on that frequency.

Can you think of anything I have to do?Please help if you can.

The hight of the dish, with respect to the ground has no bearing. The satellite is some 37,000km away from us. Bringing the dish 1 meter closer to the sat wont improve the signal much!

[ 18. Farseas, you can increase the signal strength/quality by adjusting the LNB. From the memory, signal quality should be about 60%. If you can try to adjust about 1cm in both direction than the signal quality can be reached but do not forget to check the level in each directional adjustment! Regards...

[ 20.
