In NSW it is now legal to name a child victim of crime. A fine legal point but pertinent to this discussion.

If it went to a legal stoush on the point of whether the child is a victim of crime by the DEPT could very possibly stand a legal challenge.

The reason that the authorities dont want these important details mentioned has little to do with protecting the child and everything to do with protecting the dept.

Media appeals are far more likely to suceed with names and pictures, otherwise its a nameless faceless situation and far harder for the public to care, let alone demand action of behalf of that particular child.
