Moderate 4.8 quake hits near Bislig, Surigao del Sur, Caraga, Philippines 4.8 quake 6 Feb 6:21 pm (GMT +8) An earthquake of magnitude 4.8 occurred only 15 minutes ago 53 km east of Bislig, Philippines, Indonesia's Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency reported.
The quake hit at a moderately shallow depth of 60 km beneath the epicenter near Bislig, Surigao del Sur, Caraga, Philippines, early evening on Saturday 6 February 2021 at 6:21 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) which listed the quake at magnitude 4.3.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Barcelona (pop. 3,500) located 41 km from the epicenter, and Bislig (pop. 67,600) 53 km away.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Trento (pop. 15,900) located 83 km from the epicenter, Bunawan (pop. 15,500) 89 km away, Monkayo (pop. 51,400) 94 km away, Veruela (pop. 18,100) 94 km away, Compostela (pop. 42,600) 99 km away, and San Francisco (pop. 18,500) 100 km away.
