An earthquake of magnitude 3.3 occurred only 8 minutes ago 21 miles southeast of Enid, Oklahoma, United States, the United States Geological Survey reported.
The quake hit at a very shallow depth of 2 miles beneath the epicenter near Enid, Garfield County, Oklahoma, USA, early morning on Saturday 6 February 2021 at 4:01 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 3.3 as well.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Covington (pop. 550) located 4 miles from the epicenter.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Perry (pop. 5,100) located 13 miles from the epicenter, and Enid (pop. 51,800) 21 miles away. In Stillwater (pop. 49,000, 29 miles away), Ponca City (pop. 24,800, 38 miles away), and Edmond (pop. 90,100, 44 miles away), the quake was probably not felt.
