4.7 quake in Assam, India: People alarmed, but no damageAbout an hour ago, India's state of Assam, located in the northeastern part of the country, south of the Himalayas, was hit by a magnitude 4.7 earthquake. The epicenter of the quake, which hit at a depth of 40 km, was located 17 km from the town of Tezpur.
The affected area is densely populated. Within minutes after the quake, we received multiple reports from users within a radius of 200 km from the epicenter who felt the quake as light to strong shaking, depending on their distance from the quake.
According to IndiaToday, there were no immediate reports of casualties, or property damages. However, people reported that electricity and mobile networks were down for a few minutes after the quake but was quickly restored.
