Moderate earthquake of magnitude 4.4 reported 23 km northeast of Orcopampa, Peru

The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported a magnitude 4.4 quake in Peru near Orcopampa, Provincia de Castilla, Arequipa, 31 minutes ago. The earthquake hit early morning on Saturday 20 March 2021 at 5:50 am local time at an intermediate depth of 141 km. Magnitude and other quake parameters can still change in the coming hours as the agency continues to process seismic data.
A second report was later issued by the United States Geological Survey, which listed it as a magnitude 4.4 earthquake as well.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Layo (pop. 40) located 10 km from the epicenter, Orcopampa (pop. 5,600) 23 km away, Chivay (pop. 4,500) 89 km away, and Yauri (pop. 23,900) 94 km away. In Lluta (pop. 6,000, 104 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
