Moderate magnitude 4.5 quake hits 67 km east of Fayzabad, Afghanistan in the morning 4.5 quake 20 Mar 12:13 pm (GMT +4:30) Just 20 minutes ago, a 4.5-magnitude earthquake struck near Fayzabad, Faīẕābād, Badakhshan, Afghanistan. The tremor was recorded in the morning on Saturday 20 March 2021 at 11:43 am local time, at an intermediate depth of 99 km below the surface. The event was filed by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the first seismological agency to report it. A second report was later issued by France's Réseau National de Surveillance Sismique (RéNaSS), which listed it as a magnitude 5.1 earthquake. A third agency, the United States Geological Survey, reported the same quake at magnitude 4.5. Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Ishqoshim (pop. 26,000) located 42 km from the epicenter, Ashkāsham (pop. 12,100) 42 km away, Jurm (pop. 12,100) 47 km away, and Fayzabad (pop. 44,400) 67 km away.
