Small magnitude 3.7 quake hits 56 miles west of Chico, California, United States in the morning 3.7 quake 2 Aug 11:28 am (GMT -7) The United States Geological Survey reported a magnitude 3.7 quake in the United States near Chico, Butte County, California, only 10 minutes ago. The earthquake hit in the morning on Monday 2 August 2021 at 11:28 am local time at a very shallow depth of 3.1 miles. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 3.7 earthquake as well. Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Elk Creek (pop. 160) located 19 miles from the epicenter, Covelo (pop. 1,300) 21 miles away, Willits (pop. 4,900) 31 miles away, Orland (pop. 7,600) 37 miles away, and Ukiah (pop. 15,900) 40 miles away. In Clearlake (pop. 15,200, 51 miles away), and Chico (pop. 90,300, 56 miles away), the quake was probably not felt.
