Magnitude 3.6 earthquake strikes near Homer, Kenai Peninsula, Alaska, USA 3.6 quake 31 Jul 10:53 pm (GMT -8) An earthquake of magnitude 3.6 occurred late at night on Saturday 31 July 2021 at 10:53 pm local time near Homer, Kenai Peninsula, Alaska, USA, as reported by the United States Geological Survey. According to preliminary data, the quake was located at a moderately shallow depth of 29 miles. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 3.6 as well. Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Happy Valley (pop. 590) located 1 miles from the epicenter, Anchor Point (pop. 1,900) 13 miles away, Diamond Ridge (pop. 1,200) 21 miles away, Fritz Creek (pop. 1,900) 22 miles away, and Homer (pop. 5,500) 23 miles away. In Kalifornsky (pop. 7,900, 35 miles away), Soldotna (pop. 4,500, 43 miles away), and Kenai (pop. 7,700, 44 miles away), the quake was probably not felt.
