Small magnitude 3.6 quake hits 33 miles southeast of Cantwell, Alaska, United States early morning 3.6 quake 14 Aug 3:59 am (GMT -8) A magnitude 3.6 earthquake near Cantwell, Denali, Alaska, USA, was reported only 9 minutes ago by the United States Geological Survey, considered the key international and national agency that monitors seismic activity in the US. The earthquake occurred at a shallow depth of 7.1 miles beneath the epicenter early morning on Saturday 14 August 2021 at 3:59 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 3.6 as well. Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Cantwell (pop. 220) located 33 miles from the epicenter.
