Moderate earthquake of magnitude 4.5 just reported 38 km northeast of BÄzÄrak, Afghanistan 4.5 quake 19 Aug 10:22 am (GMT +4:30) An earthquake of magnitude 4.5 occurred only 22 minutes ago 38 km northeast of Bāzārak, Afghanistan, India's National Center for Seismology (NCS) reported. The quake hit at an intermediate depth of 92 km beneath the epicenter near Bāzārak, Panjshir, Afghanistan, in the morning on Thursday 19 August 2021 at 9:52 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 4.3 earthquake. A third agency, the United States Geological Survey, reported the same quake at magnitude 4.3. Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Bāzārak (pop. 65,000) located 38 km from the epicenter, Jabal Saraj (pop. 15,000) 71 km away, Charikar (pop. 53,700) 84 km away, Nahrin (pop. 22,400) 87 km away, and Pul-e Khumrī (pop. 56,400) 112 km away. VolcanoDiscovery will automatically update magnitude and depth if these change and follow up if other significant news about the quake become available. If you’re in the area, please send us your experience through our reporting mechanism, either online or via our mobile app. This will help us provide more first-hand updates to anyone around the globe who wants to know more about this quake.
