Small 3.5 quake hits near Big Pine, Inyo County, California, USA 3.5 quake 6 Oct 7:25 am (GMT -7) An earthquake of magnitude 3.5 occurred only 8 minutes ago 12 miles south of Big Pine, California, United States, the United States Geological Survey reported.
The quake hit at a very shallow depth of 3.5 miles beneath the epicenter near Big Pine, Inyo County, California, USA, in the morning on Wednesday, October 6th, 2021, at 7:25 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 2.8.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Big Pine (pop. 1,800) located 12 miles from the epicenter, West Bishop (pop. 2,600) 27 miles away, Dixon Lane-Meadow Creek (pop. 2,600) 28 miles away, and Lone Pine (pop. 2,000) 30 miles away.
