Moderate magnitude 4.9 quake hits 49 km southeast of Catarman, Philippines around noon 4.9 quake 28 Oct 1:39 pm (GMT +8) An earthquake of magnitude 4.9 occurred only 15 minutes ago 49 km southeast of Catarman, Philippines, Indonesia's Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency reported.
The quake hit at an intermediate depth of 76 km beneath the epicenter near Catarman, Northern Samar, Eastern Visayas, Philippines, around noon on Thursday, October 28th, 2021, at 1:39 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Vigo (pop. 2,000) located 19 km from the epicenter, Palapag (pop. 8,300) 23 km away, Laoang (pop. 16,700) 25 km away, Pambujan (pop. 10,800) 28 km away, Catarman (pop. 47,400) 49 km away, Calbayog City (pop. 67,900) 59 km away, and Catbalogan (pop. 68,100) 67 km away.
