Small tremor of magnitude 3.1 reported 27 miles northeast of Port Pirie, Australia 3.1 quake 15 Nov 8:03 pm (GMT +10:30) A shallow magnitude 3.1 earthquake was reported early evening near Port Pirie, Port Pirie City and Dists, South Australia, Australia. According to Geoscience Australia (GeoAu), the quake hit on Monday, November 15th, 2021, at 7:33 pm local time at a shallow depth of 6.2 miles. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. Magnitude and other quake parameters can still change in the coming hours as the agency continues to process seismic data. Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 3.1 as well. Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Booleroo Centre (pop. 500) located 5 miles from the epicenter, and Melrose (pop. 370) 6 miles away. In Port Pirie (pop. 13,200, 27 miles away), Jamestown (pop. 1,600, 30 miles away), Crystal Brook (pop. 1,500, 34 miles away), Peterborough (pop. 1,500, 34 miles away), Quorn (pop. 1,200, 39 miles away), Port Augusta West (pop. 4,400, 40 miles away), and Whyalla (pop. 3,600, 43 miles away), the quake was probably not felt.
