Moderate magnitude 4.4 quake hits 74 km southeast of Faizabad, Afghanistan late at night

The United States Geological Survey reported a magnitude 4.4 quake in Afghanistan near Faizabad, Faīẕābād, Badakhshan, only 25 minutes ago. The earthquake hit late at night on Monday, December 27th, 2021, at 10:52 pm local time at an intermediate to considerable depth of 199.6 km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 4.4 earthquake as well.
According to preliminary calculations, we do not expect that the quake was felt by many people and did not cause any damage. In Jurm (pop. 12,100, 38 km away), Ashkāsham (pop. 12,100, 40 km away), Ishqoshim (pop. 26,000, 48 km away), and Faizabad (pop. 44,400, 74 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
