Moderate 4.3 quake hits near Helio Garcia Alfaro, Uxpanapa, Veracruz, Mexico 4.3 quake 7 Mar 9:35 am (GMT -6) An earthquake of magnitude 4.3 occurred in the morning on Monday, March 7th, 2022, at 9:35 am local time near Helio Garcia Alfaro, Uxpanapa, Veracruz, Mexico, as reported by Mexico's National Seismological Service (SSN).
According to preliminary data, the quake was located at an intermediate to considerable depth of 156 km. The strength of the earthquake may have been tempered by its relative great depth below the surface, which makes it feel weaker in absolute terms. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 4.3 earthquake as well.
According to preliminary calculations, we do not expect that the quake was felt by many people and did not cause any damage. In Progreso Chapultepec (pop. 110, 1 km away), Helio Garcia Alfaro (pop. 1,600, 2 km away), La Horqueta (Poblado Doce) (pop. 1,500, 11 km away), Poblado 10 (pop. 3,300, 16 km away), Poblado Cinco (pop. 1,300, 27 km away), Niños Héroes (pop. 1,100, 29 km away), Hermanos Cedillo (pop. 1,200, 33 km away), and Cintalapa de Figueroa (pop. 42,500, 88 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
