Small earthquake of magnitude 3.1 reported 22 miles southwest of Mentone, Texas, United States

A magnitude 3.1 earthquake near Mentone, Loving County, Texas, USA, was reported 31 minutes ago by the United States Geological Survey, considered the key international and national agency that monitors seismic activity in the US. The earthquake occurred at a very shallow depth of 4.3 miles beneath the epicenter early evening on Friday, March 18th, 2022, at 6:19 pm local time. Magnitude and other quake parameters can still change in the coming hours as the agency continues to process seismic data.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake which listed the quake at magnitude 3.1 as well. A third agency, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), reported the same quake at magnitude 3.1.
According to preliminary calculations, we do not expect that the quake was felt by many people and did not cause any damage. In Mentone (pop. 19, 22 miles away), Pecos (pop. 9,500, 30 miles away), and Loving (pop. 1,400, 47 miles away), the quake was probably not felt.
