Magnitude 3.4 earthquake strikes near Eureka, Humboldt County, California, USA 3.4 quake 6 May 1:17 pm (GMT -7) Just 7 minutes ago, a 3.4-magnitude earthquake struck near Eureka, Humboldt County, California, USA. The tremor was recorded around noon on Friday, May 6th, 2022, at 1:17 pm local time, at a shallow depth of 12 miles below the surface.
The event was filed by the United States Geological Survey, the first seismological agency to report it.
A second report was later issued by the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake, which listed it as a magnitude 3.4 earthquake as well.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Samoa (pop. 260) located 10 miles from the epicenter, Eureka (pop. 27,000) 12 miles away, Humboldt Hill (pop. 3,400) 12 miles away, Pine Hills (pop. 3,100) 14 miles away, Arcata (pop. 17,800) 16 miles away, Bayside (pop. 17,100) 17 miles away, McKinleyville (pop. 15,200) 17 miles away, Ferndale (pop. 1,400) 19 miles away, and Fortuna (pop. 12,000) 20 miles away.
