An earthquake of magnitude 4.0 occurred early morning on Friday, June 17th, 2022, at 5:12 am local time near Sendai, Sendai Shi, Honshu-miyagi-ken, Japan, as reported by Japan's National Research Institute for Earth Science and Disaster Resilience (NIED).
According to preliminary data, the quake was located at a moderately shallow depth of 62.5 km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 4.1.
