OP Webmaster Launch Director Joined: Feb 2001 Posts: 678,976 Los Angeles, USA	Small 3.1 quake hits near Yorba Linda, Orange County, California, USA 3.1 quake 3 Oct 1:24 am (GMT -7) A magnitude 3.1 earthquake near Yorba Linda, Orange County, California, USA, was reported only 8 minutes ago by the United States Geological Survey, considered the key international and national agency that monitors seismic activity in the US. The earthquake occurred at a very shallow depth of 2.4 miles beneath the epicenter early morning on Monday, October 3rd, 2022, at 1:24 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. Our monitoring service identified a second report from the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake which listed the quake at magnitude 3.1 as well. A third agency, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), reported the same quake at magnitude 3.1. Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter. Weak shaking might have been felt in Yorba Linda (pop. 68,000) located 3 miles from the epicenter. Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Placentia (pop. 52,500) located 6 miles from the epicenter, Orange (pop. 141,000) 8 miles away, Chino Hills (pop. 78,300) 8 miles away, Anaheim (pop. 350,700) 9 miles away, Fullerton (pop. 140,800) 9 miles away, Tustin (pop. 80,600) 9 miles away, and Santa Ana (pop. 335,400) 11 miles away. In Long Beach (pop. 474,100, 26 miles away), the quake was probably not felt.
