Magnitude 3.7 earthquake strikes near Lubin, Lubin County, Lower Silesia, Poland 3.7 quake 15 Oct 8:00 pm (GMT +2) An earthquake of magnitude 3.7 occurred in the evening on Saturday, October 15th, 2022, at 8:00 pm local time near Lubin, Lubin County, Lower Silesia, Poland, as reported by the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ). According to preliminary data, the quake was located at a shallow depth of 10 km. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. Our monitoring service identified a second report from the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake which listed the quake at magnitude 3.7 as well. A third agency, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), reported the same quake at magnitude 3.7. Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter. Weak shaking might have been felt in Polkowice (pop. 21,600) located 6 km from the epicenter, and Lubin (pop. 77,500) 16 km away. Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Glogow (pop. 68,500) located 22 km from the epicenter, Legnica (pop. 106,000) 31 km away, Bolesławiec (pop. 40,700) 38 km away, Goldberg (pop. 16,600) 39 km away, Nowa Sol (pop. 40,400) 42 km away, and Jawor (pop. 23,900) 48 km away. In Breslau (pop. 634,900, 83 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
