Small magnitude 3.1 quake hits 12 km northwest of Kusadasi, Turkey late at night 3.1 quake 14 Oct 10:29 pm (GMT +3) A very shallow magnitude 3.1 earthquake was reported late at night near Kusadasi, Aydın, Turkey. According to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the quake hit on Friday, October 14th, 2022, at 10:29 pm local time at a very shallow depth of 5 km. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. A second report was later issued by the Kandilli Oservatory and Earthquake Research Institute in Istanbul (KOERI-RETMC), which listed it as a magnitude 3.3 earthquake. Other agencies reporting the same quake include the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake at magnitude 3.1, and the National Observatory of Athens (NOA) at magnitude 3.1. Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Kusadasi (pop. 63,200) located 12 km from the epicenter, Özdere (pop. 13,500) 12 km away, Selcuk (pop. 29,100) 21 km away, Davutlar (pop. 9,500) 24 km away, Söke (pop. 68,200) 30 km away, and Belevi (pop. 2,200) 30 km away. In Torbalı (pop. 50,300, 33 km away), Menderes (pop. 22,000, 38 km away), and Seferihisar (pop. 19,600, 41 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
