Small magnitude 3.6 quake hits 47 km northeast of Marousi, Greece in the morning 3.6 quake 15 Dec 10:38 am (GMT +2) A magnitude 3.6 earthquake near Marousi, Nomarchía Athínas, Attica, Greece, was reported 31 minutes ago by the National Observatory of Athens (NOA), considered the main national agency that monitors seismic activity in Greece. The earthquake occurred at a very shallow depth of 5 km beneath the epicenter in the morning on Thursday, December 15th, 2022, at 10:38 am local time. Magnitude and other quake parameters can still change in the coming hours as the agency continues to process seismic data. A second report was later issued by the Kandilli Oservatory and Earthquake Research Institute in Istanbul (KOERI-RETMC), which listed it as a magnitude 3.5 earthquake. Other agencies reporting the same quake include the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake at magnitude 3.7, and the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) at magnitude 3.7. Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter. Weak shaking might have been felt in Zarakes (pop. 940) located 8 km from the epicenter. Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Nea Makri (pop. 15,600) located 32 km from the epicenter, Gerakas (pop. 29,900) 44 km away, Kifissia (pop. 47,300) 45 km away, Agia Paraskevi (pop. 59,700) 47 km away, Marousi (pop. 72,300) 47 km away, Chalandri (pop. 74,200) 48 km away, Iraklion (pop. 49,600) 50 km away, Athens (pop. 664,000) 56 km away, and Kallithea (pop. 100,600) 60 km away.
