Magnitude 3.5 earthquake strikes near Apple Valley, San Bernardino County, California, USA 3.5 quake 31 Dec 3:41 am (GMT -8) A magnitude 3.5 earthquake near Apple Valley, San Bernardino County, California, USA, was reported only 13 minutes ago by the United States Geological Survey, considered the key international and national agency that monitors seismic activity in the US. The earthquake occurred at a very shallow depth of 3.1 miles beneath the epicenter early morning on Saturday, December 31st, 2022, at 3:41 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. Our monitoring service identified a second report from The Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology (IRIS) which listed the quake at magnitude 3.5 as well. Other agencies reporting the same quake include the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake at magnitude 3.5, and the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) at magnitude 3.5. Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter. Weak shaking might have been felt in Lucerne Valley (pop. 5,800) located 7 miles from the epicenter. Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Apple Valley (pop. 72,200) located 18 miles from the epicenter, Hesperia (pop. 93,300) 22 miles away, Highland (pop. 54,900) 23 miles away, Victorville (pop. 122,200) 24 miles away, Redlands (pop. 71,000) 26 miles away, San Bernardino (pop. 216,100) 27 miles away, and Rialto (pop. 103,100) 31 miles away.
