Small 2.8 quake hits near Wagin, Western Australia, Australia 2.8 quake 6 Feb 2:25 am (GMT +8) A magnitude 2.8 earthquake near Wagin, Western Australia, Australia, was reported 32 minutes ago by Geoscience Australia (GeoAu), considered the main national agency that monitors seismic activity in Australia. The earthquake occurred at a very shallow depth of 3.1 miles beneath the epicenter early morning on Monday, February 6th, 2023, at 2:25 am local time. Magnitude and other quake parameters can still change in the coming hours as the agency continues to process seismic data. Our monitoring service identified a second report from the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake which listed the quake at magnitude 2.8 as well. A third agency, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), reported the same quake at magnitude 2.8. Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Arthur River (pop. 100) located 3 miles from the epicenter, and Bokal (pop. 35) 9 miles away. In Darkan (pop. 400, 15 miles away), Wagin (pop. 1,400, 21 miles away), Kojonup (pop. 1,200, 32 miles away), Narrogin (pop. 4,200, 33 miles away), and Katanning (pop. 3,700, 39 miles away), the quake was probably not felt.
