Small 3.4 quake hits near Hilo, Hawaii County, Hawaii, USA

The United States Geological Survey reported a magnitude 3.4 quake in the United States near Hilo, Hawaii County, Hawaii, only 22 minutes ago. The earthquake hit early afternoon on Friday, June 30th, 2023, at 2:23 pm local time at a shallow depth of 12 miles. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from The Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology (IRIS) which listed the quake at magnitude 3.1. A third agency, the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake, reported the same quake at magnitude 3.4.

In Mountainview (pop. 3,900, 30 miles away), and Hawaiian Paradise Park (pop. 11,400, 34 miles away), the quake was probably not felt.
