Small magnitude 3.8 quake hits 39 km north of Valparaiso, Chile in the morning 3.8 quake 10 Jul 11:37 am (GMT -4) Just 19 minutes ago, a 3.8-magnitude earthquake struck near Valparaiso, Provincia de Valparaíso, Region de Valparaiso, Chile. The tremor was recorded in the morning on Monday, July 10th, 2023, at 11:37 am local time, at a shallow depth of 27 km below the surface. The event was filed by the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake, the first seismological agency to report it. Our monitoring service identified a second report from the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) which listed the quake at magnitude 4.6. Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Hacienda La Calera (pop. 49,100) located 35 km from the epicenter, Quillota (pop. 67,800) 37 km away, Viña del Mar (pop. 294,600) 37 km away, Valparaiso (pop. 282,400) 39 km away, La Ligua (pop. 24,900) 41 km away, Quilpué (pop. 130,300) 42 km away, Villa Alemana (pop. 97,300) 43 km away, and Limache (pop. 35,900) 46 km away.
