Magnitude 3.4 earthquake strikes near Lubin, Lubin County, Lower Silesia, Poland 3.4 quake 17 Jul 8:49 pm (GMT +2) A magnitude 3.4 earthquake near Lubin, Lubin County, Lower Silesia, Poland, was reported only 14 minutes ago by the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ), considered one of the key international agencies that monitor seismic activity worldwide. The earthquake occurred at a shallow depth of 10 km beneath the epicenter in the evening on Monday, July 17th, 2023, at 8:49 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. Our monitoring service identified a second report from the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake which listed the quake at magnitude 3.4 as well. Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter. Weak shaking might have been felt in Rakow (pop. 170) located 5 km from the epicenter, and Chocianow (pop. 8,200) 5 km away. Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Polkowice (pop. 21,600) located 20 km from the epicenter, Lubin (pop. 77,500) 24 km away, Bolesławiec (pop. 40,700) 24 km away, Legnica (pop. 106,000) 28 km away, Goldberg (pop. 16,600) 29 km away, and Glogow (pop. 68,500) 35 km away.
