Small earthquake of magnitude 3.4 just reported 29 km southeast of Al Hoceima, Morocco 3.4 quake 7 Aug 9:57 pm (GMT +1) An earthquake of magnitude 3.4 occurred in the evening on Monday, August 7th, 2023, at 9:57 pm local time near Al Hoceima, Al-Hoceima, Tanger-Tetouan-Al Hoceima, Morocco, as reported by Spain's Instituto Geográfico Nacional (IGN). According to preliminary data, the quake was located at a moderately shallow depth of 30 km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. Our monitoring service identified a second report from the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake which listed the quake at magnitude 3.4 as well. Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Sidi Bouiachi (pop. 160) located 16 km from the epicenter, Imzouren (pop. 40,000) 20 km away, Bni Bouayach (pop. 18,300) 21 km away, Al Hoceima (pop. 395,600) 29 km away, and Tirhanimîne (pop. 55,800) 30 km away. In Nador (pop. 129,300, 64 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
