Small magnitude 3.1 earthquake 36 km southeast of Tarbes, France

Just 14 minutes ago, a 3.1-magnitude earthquake struck near Tarbes, Hautes-Pyrénées, Occitanie, France. The tremor was recorded early morning on Saturday, September 9th, 2023, at 3:46 am local time, at a very shallow depth of 6.3 km below the surface.
The event was filed by France's Réseau National de Surveillance Sismique (RéNaSS), the first seismological agency to report it.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from France's Military Applications Division - Earth and Environmental Science (CEA) which listed the quake at magnitude 3.4. A third agency, the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake, reported the same quake at magnitude 3.0.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Hèches (pop. 630) located 3 km from the epicenter.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Lannemezan (pop. 6,600) located 15 km from the epicenter, Montréjeau (pop. 2,900) 19 km away, and Bagneres-de-Bigorre (pop. 9,000) 20 km away. In Saint-Gaudens (pop. 12,200, 32 km away), Lourdes (pop. 15,800, 36 km away), Aureilhan (pop. 7,900, 36 km away), and Tarbes (pop. 52,100, 36 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
