6.9 quake 8 Sep 11:10 pm (GMT +1)

An earthquake of magnitude 6.9 occurred late at night on Friday, September 8th, 2023, at 11:10 pm local time near Marrakech, Marrakesh-Safi, Morocco, as reported by the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ).
According to preliminary data, the quake was located at a shallow depth of 10 km. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake which listed the quake at magnitude 6.9 as well.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should have been widely felt by almost everyone in the area of the epicenter. It might have caused light to moderate damage.
Moderate shaking probably occurred in Oukaimeden (pop. 4,400) located 59 km from the epicenter, Taroudant (pop. 71,100) 73 km away, Setti Fatma (pop. 22,300) 76 km away, Marrakech (pop. 839,300) 82 km away, Oulad Teïma (pop. 66,800) 100 km away, Youssoufia (pop. 64,900) 139 km away, and Essaouira (pop. 70,600) 140 km away.
