Small tremor of magnitude 2.9 just reported 15 km northeast of Bolesławiec, Poland 2.9 quake 13 Oct 6:27 pm (GMT +2) A magnitude 2.9 earthquake near Bolesławiec, Powiat bolesławiecki, Lower Silesia, Poland, was reported only 8 minutes ago by the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ), considered one of the key international agencies that monitor seismic activity worldwide. The earthquake occurred at a shallow depth of 10 km beneath the epicenter early evening on Friday, October 13th, 2023, at 6:27 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. A second report was later issued by the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake, which listed it as a magnitude 2.9 earthquake as well. Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Krzywa (pop. 560) located 3 km from the epicenter, Chojnow (pop. 14,200) 11 km away, Bolesławiec (pop. 40,700) 15 km away, and Goldberg (pop. 16,600) 22 km away. In Legnica (pop. 106,000, 28 km away), Lubin (pop. 77,500, 31 km away), Jelenia Gora (pop. 87,300, 45 km away), and Glogow (pop. 68,500, 46 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
