Moderate 4.1 quake hits near Casablanca, Casablanca-Settat, Morocco 4.1 quake 18 Oct 7:37 pm (GMT +1) An earthquake of magnitude 4.1 occurred only 10 minutes ago 15 km southwest of Casablanca, Morocco, Spain's Instituto Geográfico Nacional (IGN) reported. The quake hit at a very shallow depth of 7 km beneath the epicenter near Casablanca, Casablanca-Settat, Morocco, early evening on Wednesday, October 18th, 2023, at 7:37 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. A second report was later issued by the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake, which listed it as a magnitude 4.1 earthquake as well. Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter. Weak shaking might have been felt in Casablanca (pop. 3,144,900) located 15 km from the epicenter, Nouaceur (pop. 12,700) 21 km away, and Berrechid (pop. 94,000) 33 km away. Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Mohammedia (pop. 187,700) located 39 km from the epicenter, Settat (pop. 119,100) 60 km away, Azemmour (pop. 37,100) 60 km away, Bouznika (pop. 27,300) 63 km away, El Jadida (pop. 147,500) 76 km away, Temara (pop. 313,500) 91 km away, and Rabat (pop. 1,655,800) 101 km away.
