An earthquake of magnitude 3.5 occurred only 12 minutes ago 9 miles northeast of Sparks, Nevada, United States, the United States Geological Survey reported.
The quake hit at a very shallow depth of 5.3 miles beneath the epicenter near Sparks, Washoe County, Nevada, USA, in the morning on Wednesday, October 18th, 2023, at 11:26 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from The Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology (IRIS) which listed the quake at magnitude 3.5 as well. A third agency, the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake, reported the same quake at magnitude 3.5.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
