Small earthquake of magnitude 3.1 just reported 16 km west of Legnica, Poland 3.1 quake 23 Oct 8:09 pm (GMT +2) An earthquake of magnitude 3.1 occurred only 23 minutes ago 16 km west of Legnica, Poland, the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) reported. The quake hit at a shallow depth of 10 km beneath the epicenter near Legnica, Lower Silesia, Poland, in the evening on Monday, October 23rd, 2023, at 8:09 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. Our monitoring service identified a second report from the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake which listed the quake at magnitude 3.1 as well. Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Chojnow (pop. 14,200) located 4 km from the epicenter, Goldberg (pop. 16,600) 13 km away, Legnica (pop. 106,000) 16 km away, Bolesławiec (pop. 40,700) 25 km away, Lubin (pop. 77,500) 26 km away, and Jawor (pop. 23,900) 28 km away. In Polkowice (pop. 21,600, 31 km away), and Jelenia Gora (pop. 87,300, 40 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
