OP Webmaster Launch Director Joined: Feb 2001 Posts: 381,904 Los Angeles, USA	Significant 5.1 quake hits near Vallenar, Huasco, Atacama, Chile 5.1 quake Near Coast of Central Chile Nov 10, 2023 10:27 am (GMT -5) Just 5 minutes ago, a 5.1-magnitude earthquake struck near Vallenar, Huasco, Atacama, Chile. The tremor was recorded in the morning on Friday, November 10th, 2023, at 10:27 am local time, at a shallow depth of 10 km below the surface. The event was filed by the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ), the first seismological agency to report it. Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter. Weak shaking might have been felt in Vallenar (pop. 44,900) located 111 km from the epicenter.
