Small magnitude 3.6 quake hits 17 km northwest of Corfu, Greece early evening 3.6 quake 9 Nov 6:25 pm (GMT +2) A shallow magnitude 3.6 earthquake was reported early evening near Corfu, Kérkyra, Ionian Islands, Greece. According to the National Observatory of Athens (NOA), the quake hit on Thursday, November 9th, 2023, at 6:25 pm local time at a shallow depth of 17.6 km. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. A second report was later issued by The Seismological Survey of Serbia (SSS), which listed it as a magnitude 3.9 earthquake. A third agency, the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake, reported the same quake at magnitude 3.7. Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter. Weak shaking might have been felt in Klimatia (pop. 230) located 1 km from the epicenter, Acharavi (pop. 1000) 6 km away, and Agios Georgis (pop. 5,000) 8 km away. Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Kontokali (pop. 1,700) located 12 km from the epicenter, Alepou (pop. 3,100) 17 km away, Corfu (pop. 27,000) 17 km away, Kanali (pop. 4,100) 18 km away, Viros (pop. 1,200) 19 km away, and Sarandë (pop. 15,100) 23 km away.
