An earthquake of magnitude 2.8 occurred 31 minutes ago 13 miles south of Kevington, Victoria, Australia, Geoscience Australia (GeoAu) reported.
The quake hit at a very shallow depth of 4.4 miles beneath the epicenter near Kevington, Mansfield, Victoria, Australia, in the afternoon on Tuesday, December 19th, 2023, at 5:14 pm local time. Magnitude and other quake parameters can still change in the coming hours as the agency continues to process seismic data.
A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 2.8 earthquake as well.
According to preliminary calculations, we do not expect that the quake was felt by many people and did not cause any damage. In Kevington (pop. 50, 13 miles away), the quake was probably not felt.
