Mexico was shaken near Juchitan de Zaragoza, Heroica Ciudad de Juchitán de Zaragoza, Oaxaca, by an earthquake of magnitude 5.0 only 20 minutes ago, the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) reported.
The quake hit at a shallow depth of 10 km beneath the epicenter near Juchitan de Zaragoza, Heroica Ciudad de Juchitán de Zaragoza, Oaxaca, Mexico, in the morning on Thursday, January 18th, 2024, at 8:40 am local time. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
