Small earthquake of magnitude 3.6 just reported 55 miles southwest of Eureka, California, United States 3.6 quake Offshore Northern California Feb 2, 2024 09:35 am (GMT -8) An earthquake of magnitude 3.6 occurred only 4 minutes ago 55 miles southwest of Eureka, California, United States, the United States Geological Survey reported. The quake hit at a shallow depth of 6.4 miles beneath the epicenter near Eureka, Humboldt County, California, USA, in the morning on Friday, February 2nd, 2024, at 9:35 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 3.6 earthquake as well. According to preliminary calculations, we do not expect that the quake was felt by many people and did not cause any damage. In Ferndale (pop. 1,400, 45 miles away), Fortuna (pop. 12,000, 50 miles away), Humboldt Hill (pop. 3,400, 52 miles away), Rio Dell (pop. 3,400, 52 miles away), Pine Hills (pop. 3,100, 54 miles away), and Eureka (pop. 27,000, 55 miles away), the quake was probably not felt.
