Webmaster Launch Director Joined: Feb 2001 Posts: 678,977 Los Angeles, USA	Small 3.0 quake hits near Bordeaux, Gironde, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, France 3.0 quake 23 Feb 8:15 am (GMT +1) France's Réseau National de Surveillance Sismique (RéNaSS) reported a magnitude 3.0 quake in France near Bordeaux, Gironde, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, only 8 minutes ago. The earthquake hit in the morning on Friday, February 23rd, 2024, at 8:15 am local time at a very shallow depth of 5 km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 3.0 as well. Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter. Weak shaking might have been felt in Sainte-Terre (pop. 1,800) located 3 km from the epicenter. Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Libourne (pop. 24,200) located 11 km from the epicenter. In Lormont (pop. 22,600, 31 km away), Cenon (pop. 22,400, 32 km away), Villenave-d'Ornon (pop. 30,300, 35 km away), Bordeaux (pop. 231,800, 36 km away), Talence (pop. 42,600, 37 km away), Pessac (pop. 57,900, 40 km away), and Mérignac (pop. 69,800, 41 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
