Small earthquake of magnitude 3.7 just reported 27 miles southeast of Badger, Alaska, United States 3.7 quake 4 Km SW of Salcha, Alaska, Feb 22, 2024 05:54 pm (Anchorage time) A magnitude 3.7 earthquake near Badger, Fairbanks North Star, Alaska, USA, was reported only 3 minutes ago by the United States Geological Survey, considered the key international and national agency that monitors seismic activity in the US. The earthquake occurred at a shallow depth of 7.2 miles beneath the epicenter in the afternoon on Thursday, February 22nd, 2024, at 5:54 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 3.7 as well. Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter. Weak shaking might have been felt in Salcha (pop. 1,100) located 3 miles from the epicenter. Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Eielson Air Force Base (pop. 2,600) located 12 miles from the epicenter, Harding-Birch Lakes (pop. 300) 14 miles away, Moose Creek (pop. 750) 16 miles away, North Pole (pop. 2,200) 21 miles away, Badger (pop. 19,500) 27 miles away, Fairbanks (pop. 32,300) 33 miles away, College (pop. 13,000) 35 miles away, Farmers Loop (pop. 4,900) 36 miles away, and Ester (pop. 2,400) 40 miles away.
