Magnitude 3.8 earthquake strikes near Banja Luka, Bosnia Serb Republic, Bosnia & Herzegovina 3.8 quake 26 Feb 9:57 pm (GMT +1) An earthquake of magnitude 3.8 occurred only 15 minutes ago 16 km east of Banja Luka, Bosnia & Herzegovina, the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) reported. The quake hit at a shallow depth of 10 km beneath the epicenter near Banja Luka, Bosnia Serb Republic, Bosnia & Herzegovina, in the evening on Monday, February 26th, 2024, at 9:57 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. A second report was later issued by Hungary's Seismological Observatory (Hungarian National Seismological Network), which listed it as a magnitude 3.2 earthquake. Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter. Weak shaking might have been felt in Celinac (pop. 6,700) located 6 km from the epicenter, Kotor Varoš (pop. 5,100) 15 km away, Banja Luka (pop. 221,100) 16 km away, Mejdan - Obilićevo (pop. 5,400) 16 km away, Trn (pop. 7,600) 17 km away, and Laktaši (pop. 6,500) 19 km away. Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Doboj (pop. 27,200) located 55 km from the epicenter, Prijedor (pop. 36,300) 59 km away, and Travnik (pop. 31,100) 62 km away.
