Small magnitude 3.9 earthquake 26 km southeast of Karpathos, Greece 3.9 quake Greece: 26 Km ESE From Karpathos Mar 5, 2024 03:17 pm (GMT +2) An earthquake of magnitude 3.9 occurred only 9 minutes ago 26 km southeast of Karpathos, Greece, the National Observatory of Athens (NOA) reported. The quake hit at a shallow depth of 10 km beneath the epicenter near Karpathos, Dodecanese, South Aegean, Greece, early afternoon on Tuesday, March 5th, 2024, at 3:17 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter. Weak shaking might have been felt in Karpathos (pop. 2,200) located 26 km from the epicenter. Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Lardos (pop. 1,300) located 91 km from the epicenter.
