Magnitude 3.3 earthquake strikes near San Diego, San Diego County, California, USA 3.3 quake 8 Mar 1:09 pm (GMT -8) Just 14 minutes ago, a 3.3-magnitude earthquake struck near San Diego, San Diego County, California, USA. The tremor was recorded around noon on Friday, March 8th, 2024, at 1:09 pm local time, at a shallow depth of 9.8 miles below the surface. The event was filed by the United States Geological Survey, the first seismological agency to report it. A second report was later issued by The Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology (IRIS), which listed it as a magnitude 3.3 earthquake as well. A third agency, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), reported the same quake at magnitude 3.3. Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Del Mar (pop. 4,400) located 16 miles from the epicenter, San Diego (pop. 1,394,900) 18 miles away, Encinitas (pop. 62,900) 19 miles away, National City (pop. 61,100) 22 miles away, and Chula Vista (pop. 265,800) 24 miles away. In Karlsbad (pop. 114,700, 26 miles away), Oceanside (pop. 175,700, 28 miles away), El Cajon (pop. 103,700, 28 miles away), and San Marcos (pop. 92,900, 29 miles away), the quake was probably not felt.
