Small magnitude 3.0 earthquake 38 miles southeast of Oodnadatta, South Australia, Australia 3.0 quake Australia: Oodnadatta, SA, Aug 11, 2024 12:40 am (GMT +9:30) An earthquake of magnitude 3.0 occurred after midnight on Sunday, August 11th, 2024, at 12:10 am local time near Oodnadatta, South Australia, Australia, as reported by Geoscience Australia (GeoAu). According to preliminary data, the quake was located at a very shallow depth of 4 miles. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 3.0 earthquake as well. According to preliminary calculations, we do not expect that the quake was felt by many people and did not cause any damage. In Oodnadatta (pop. 290, 38 miles away), the quake was probably not felt.
