Small magnitude 3.7 earthquake 64 km southwest of Argostoli, Greece 3.7 quake Greece: Ionian Sea Aug 17, 2024 09:32 pm (GMT +3) A magnitude 3.7 earthquake near Argostoli, Kefallonia, Ionian Islands, Greece, was reported only 3 minutes ago by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), considered one of the key international agencies that monitor seismic activity worldwide. The earthquake occurred at a shallow depth of 10 km beneath the epicenter in the evening on Saturday, August 17th, 2024, at 9:32 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Anafonitria (pop. 250) located 56 km from the epicenter, Lixouri (pop. 3,800) 63 km away, Argostoli (pop. 9,800) 64 km away, Katastari (pop. 1,400) 65 km away, Valsamata (pop. 1000) 69 km away, and Machairado (pop. 940) 69 km away.
