Magnitude 3.1 earthquake strikes near Pasto, San Juan de Pasto, Nariño, Colombia 3.1 quake 17 Aug 8:21 am (GMT -5) A magnitude 3.1 earthquake near Pasto, San Juan de Pasto, Nariño, Colombia, was reported only 18 minutes ago by The Colombian Geological Service (SGC), considered the main national agency that monitors seismic activity in this part of the world. The earthquake occurred at a shallow depth of 15 km beneath the epicenter in the morning on Saturday, August 17th, 2024, at 8:21 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Santiago (pop. 2,700) located 10 km from the epicenter, Colon (pop. 3,300) 15 km away, Sibundoy (pop. 9,500) 21 km away, and Pasto (pop. 382,200) 24 km away. In Buesaco (pop. 20,000, 30 km away), San Lorenzo (pop. 16,700, 45 km away), Mocoa (pop. 22,000, 49 km away), La Union (pop. 15,100, 54 km away), and Tuquerres (pop. 20,200, 59 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
