Small 2.5 quake hits near Feldkirch, Vorarlberg, Austria 2.5 quake 17 Aug 3:00 am (GMT +2) The Swiss Seismological Service (SED) reported a magnitude 2.5 quake in Austria near Feldkirch, Vorarlberg, only 12 minutes ago. The earthquake hit early morning on Saturday, August 17th, 2024, at 3:00 am local time at a very shallow depth of 3.9 km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 2.5 earthquake as well. Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter. Weak shaking might have been felt in Frastanz (pop. 6,400) located 1 km from the epicenter. Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Feldkirch (pop. 33,400) located 3 km from the epicenter, Mauren (pop. 3,600) 6 km away, Schellenberg (pop. 1000) 6 km away, Planken (pop. 380) 6 km away, Eschen (pop. 4,000) 7 km away, Ruggell (pop. 1,900) 8 km away, Gamprin (pop. 1,300) 8 km away, Schaan (pop. 5,700) 10 km away, Vaduz (pop. 5,200) 11 km away, Triesenberg (pop. 2,700) 12 km away, and Triesen (pop. 4,700) 13 km away. In Balzers (pop. 4,400, 18 km away), Appenzell (pop. 5,600, 21 km away), Dornbirn (pop. 49,300, 25 km away), and Bregenz (pop. 29,500, 34 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
