Small magnitude 3.8 earthquake 16 km northwest of Agrinio, Greece 3.8 quake 18 Sep 12:50 am (GMT +3) An earthquake of magnitude 3.8 occurred only 3 minutes ago 16 km northwest of Agrinio, Greece, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported. The quake hit at a very shallow depth of 5 km beneath the epicenter near Agrinio, Aitoloakarnania, Western Greece, Greece, after midnight on Wednesday, September 18th, 2024, at 12:50 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc. In Lepenou (pop. 2,100) located 2 km from the epicenter, the quake should have been felt as light shaking. Weak shaking might have been felt in Fyteies (pop. 1,500) located 9 km from the epicenter, Neapolis (pop. 1,400) 9 km away, Agios Konstantinos (pop. 6,500) 14 km away, Agrinio (pop. 46,900) 16 km away, and Amfilochia (pop. 4,000) 18 km away. Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Preveza (pop. 17,300) located 53 km from the epicenter, Arta (pop. 21,900) 55 km away, and Patras (pop. 168,000) 66 km away.
